A new political party joined the race in the municipal elections this year. In just a few months the party presented a platform with orientations, a team of candidates and went viral on social media.

An official party

The party became official on July 11 2025. During the electoral campaign they put together a team of 51 candidates + 1 mayoral candidate. They gained the support of many citizens who became members online to get the latest updates, follow the electoral campaign and contribute financially.

The party Futur Montréal received invitations from television shows and radio stations based in Montreal. Many public events were covered by the media like CJAD, CTV news, CBC Radio-Canada, QUB radio, 99.5 Montréal, Global and The Gazette.

The platform

Futur Montréal is a political party from Montreal who stepped unto the political scene in 2025. They hold a centrist position and cover issues like lowering the cost of living, transportation, economic development, tourism, housing and taxes. We can read on the website that it seeks to '' improve the lives of Montrealers today while laying the foundation for a 21st-century city ready to meet tomorrow’s challenges.''

The City of Montreal suffered because a few corruptions scandals with former mayors like Gérald Tremblay and Michael Applebaum. Then came the pandemic which caused Montrealears to experience alot of setbacks. Today many commercial locals in the downtown area are vacant, it seems like the city has lost it's international appeal, the homeless crisis is raging, housing is a difficult conversation that politicians are not having, there are recurring issues with road work, taxes are on the rise while citizens are getting fewer services.

Therefore, the timing is perfect for a party like Futur Montréal to enter into politics.

The future starts now

The elections were held this year in November and the results came in. Jean-François Kacou obtained 8713 votes but he wasn't able to secure any seats at the City Council. Still, it was a proud moment for the founding members, the candidates, their friends and family.

Montrealers elected a party and mayor for the next four years, Soraya Martinez Ferrada with Ensemble Montréal. A party that has been around for a few years, since 2013. The turnout in this election was 37,07 % a drop of 1.25% voters compared to the previous elections in 2021.
